I specialize in cutting-edge, experiential models of therapy.
A Different Approach to Therapy
Experiential Therapy
Let me share a little bit about my approach to therapy. My goal, as a therapist, is always for clients to complete the therapeutic goals upon which we agreed. I strive to collaboratively create opportunities for clients to experience something new in each therapy session. My training has helped me recognize how new experiences, within the context of a therapeutic relationship, can shape and heal us in profound ways that talking about something may not. Wisdom and authentic knowing inherent in each of us - in the deeper places of our brains and within our physical selves- will rise to the surface when given the space to do so.
I am a firm believer in the healing power of spaciousness.
The therapeutic models within which I work; EMDR Therapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Deep Brain Reorienting & Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment, each utilize the power of mindful attention to what may be just out of awareness. Allowing what is unconscious to become conscious and available for exploration and understanding provides the possibility of transformation.

Susan Wendelborg, LCSW
Hello! I’m Susan Wendelborg (she / her), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (Oregon, Illinois) with over 25 years’ experience as a clinician working with adults in a variety of settings and 7 years’ experience as a clinical trainer and consultant. I am a Certified Sensorimotor Psychotherapist and Approved Consultant, as well as, a Certified EMDR Therapist, Approved Consultant and Advance Credit Provider.
My experience as a student of experiential models of therapy has transformed my work and personal life. I continue to deepen into Sensorimotor Psychotherapy principles, and enjoy exploring the intersection of psychotherapy, spirituality, and science. I am committed to the practice of Somatic Abolitionism in community with others to transform harmful patterns and legacies of oppression.
I offer clinical services, consultation and NBCC-Credited workshops to individuals and groups in-person and online. Some of these include individual and group Sensorimotor consultation for SP students and graduates at all levels and a monthly EMDR group consultation. My intention is to offer a solid and clear understanding of the SP model grounded in the principles of non-violence, organicity and relational alchemy. I utilize and teach an integrated, experiential approach to therapy.
Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
I recognize the impact of white supremacy, deep-rooted and intrinsic in our country, as traumatic and strive to counteract it in my practice and practices.
I embrace a stance of Cultural Humility, recognizing that my efforts toward anti-racism, anti-oppression, multiculturalism and inclusivity must be ongoing and centered in my efforts to treat trauma.
I recognize the traumatic impact of white supremacy, on all communities, that is internal, inter-personal, institutional and systemic and how these may be a part of my clients' trauma histories.
I recognize how historical or epigenetic trauma, that is, trauma experienced by our ancestors, impacts gene expression and overall health in negative ways.
I celebrate the resources and resilience inherent in all cultures, particularly cultures that have endured oppression, and welcome the integration of these resources in the therapeutic process.
I understand the intersection between the therapists' and clients' cultures and welcome whatever conversation and exploration feels helpful to my clients
These are a few of the ways I’m actively working toward multiculturalism and anti-racism at my practice.
Oregon EMDR, LLC trainings and consultation include cultural context and awareness.
I am actively involved in a Somatic Abolitionism practice with other white and white-passing folx.
My initial evaluation includes assessment of racial / cultural pride, trauma, micro-aggressions and resources.
Treatment plans may include processing of historical, cultural and epigenetic trauma.
